Welcome to the Institution of Fire Engineers New Zealand Branch
An
international learned body, was founded in 1918 and incorporated in New Zealand
in 1924, with the following main objectives:
- To promote, encourage and improve the science and practice of fire extinction, fire prevention and fire engineering, and all operations and expedients connected therewith.
- To give an impulse to ideas likely to be useful in connection with or in relation to such science and practice to the members of the Institution and to the community at large.
- IFE is at the heart of the fire community, promoting best practice and advancing the discipline for the benefit of society and supporting the professional development of members.

Protection from Fire –Changes to the Building
Code and the new Acceptable Solutions C/AS1-C/AS7
The Department of Building and Housing has released an amended
Code Clause C, Protection from Fire, seven new Acceptable Solutions (replacing
the existing C/AS1), and a new Verification Method C/VM2. If you want to know
more about the changes and specifically the Acceptable Solutions, register for
this workshop.

Fire safety design short
course
Learn about fire
safety and how it impacts on the design of buildings
Victoria University of Wellington is
offering a fire safety design short course by distance learning in Trimester 2
commencing 16 July 2012.
Course content includes compliance with
the Building Act on fire safety impacts on building layouts, building
separations, external windows, and the surface finishes in buildings. Course
lecturer, Dr Geoff Thomas, has a PhD in fire engineering (University of
Canterbury) and has been involved in fire engineering consultancy work for over
10 years.
This course is suitable for architects,
building designers, interior architects, and anyone else with an interest in
fire safety in buildings.
